SUPER FAST REVIEW:
So darn cute!
This one has a lot of cute animals. The story is nice, the artwork is wonderful, the situations are very humorous (laughed all throughout this book) and it's sometimes surprisingly unpredictable.
I don't give a shit how old I am, I love these books.

Biscuit is one of the literary world's cutest puppies!

In this adventure he goes to the farm and has lots of fun helping to feed the animals.

And of course, being Biscuit, he always has time to make a new friend!

I have been reading this series of books to more than 15 different little ones in my care and I still enjoy reading them every time.

Teaching Idea:
This book would be useful in teaching animals and animal sounds to beginning readers. Students can use the pictures to match the animal to the words and mimic their animal sounds!

Biscuit has a fun day at the farm. He help feeds the hens, pigs, goats, sheep, & the geese. Biscuit was a little afraid but some of the farm animals wanted to play. Biscuit finds himself being a friendly animal to the farm animals.

Lesson Plan: draw conclusion: list other farm animals that Biscuit can help feed

Cute for early readers. Biscuit and his friend spend a day helping the farmer and feeding various animals. Put a determined piglet keeps escaping and following them. Classically adorable illustrations as with all biscuit books. Interesting enough to hold attention for young emerging readers, without being too complex.

My 2-year old son found this especially enjoyable after we took a field trip to a farm. He was able to identify and remember petting all the animals in the story. We especially liked the end because neither one of us are fans of the certain animal which chases Biscuit.

This book was about a dog name Biscuit. He spends a day at the farm. He takes care of some animals with a little girl. They take care of pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. At the end of the day Biscuit falls asleep with the pigs. It is a good book.

A good book to teach pre-readers. A little on the more difficult end of the spectrum than happy and honey.

I read this book to my Korean students and they really enjoyed the animal noises and the cute little mischievousness Biscuit puts himself in.

Biscuit's Day at the Farm is an adorable book about an even cuter puppy! This book is about a puppy named Biscuit and his adventures on the farm. Biscuit helps feed the chickens, cows, goats and pigs. One particular little piglet followed Biscuit everywhere he went and they became great friends while Biscuit was there. This book had a couple themes that a reader could see. The first theme that I saw was about friendship; everyone can be friends no matter who or what they are. The second theme that I saw was about helping others. Although Biscuit did not have to help out on the farm he chose to help! I enjoyed reading this book because it took place on a farm and because it puts in words what I wish for my children to have one day. I recommend this book for young children who are still learning about friends or that are just starting school. This book teaches them to keep an open mind when making a new friend. ...more

BISCUIT'S DAY AT THE FARM is a cute little book at the Kindergarten level. The accelerated reading number is 0.8. Lexile: 260L.

The story is about a visit to the farm where the Biscuit and his girl are helping out. The drama comes in with a piglet that won't stay in his pen.

Here's some sample text from two pages:

We must put

Besides being a practice reader this book can be used with older babies and toddlers. There are lots of farm animals to point at --pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, and geese-- as well as farm structures and equipment, like barns, pens, cages and tractors.

Recommends it for: beginning readers and parents reading with them
Our youngest just loves the books in the Biscuit series by Alyssa Satin Capucilli and Pat Schories. The narratives are repetitive and simple and the illustrations are adorable. It's a great Level 1 book that helps build confidence in early readers. This is a fun book about Biscuit visiting a farm and making friends with a piglet. We've read this one a couple of times. This Biscuit book was a nice read. It would also be an easier read for a level 1 beginning reader. Many repetitive words. This helps children who may not be familiar with farm animals become familiar with them. The illustrations are also very nice. I liked this Biscuit book. The pictures are fun to look at and Biscuit is a lovable character. This beginner book has no more than 20 words on a page and the pictures tell the story more than the words do. There are many repeated words and context clues. All of the words should be familiar to children so it would be easy to read. The sentences are consistently at the bottom of the page in large text.

In Biscuits Day at the Farm, the little girl takes her dog Biscuit to go help her do her chores on the farm. Biscuit is kept busying by help feeding the pigs and he also makes friends with the pigs and goose by the end of the story. The illustrations in this book really descriptive for young children and help tell the story. Also, the choose of words, like woof and oink help grab the children's attention. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, "telling stories in another way," and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.

Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.
